Inner Voice & the Child Within

Spring Equinox ushers in the Astrological New Year, Recalibration of Goals

Talking to oneself is an interesting habit. We all do it. How do you talk to yourself when you’re in conversation with yourself? Is it like a parent getting onto a child telling them how to be better, pointing out what they’re doing wrong? Is it like two friends sharing secrets and crafting advice? Is it empowering or deflating? If it’s not empowering, you’re not really talking to yourself. You’re communicating with your “lower ego,” the part of you that tries to “keep you alive” by scaring you and making you think you are less-than so you will not venture too far out of your “box.” It wants you to rely on its nagging voice to keep you “safe.” A small box is easy to keep contained, to control. However, when you speak to yourself softly and with love, when you empower yourself with your words, then you are tapping into your “higher ego,” the part of you that desires the greatest in life, that does believe in you and loves you unconditionally. This part of you seeks solutions rather than highlighting problems.

Whenever I start to beat up on myself, I picture little Holli. I visualize myself as a 5-year-old girl. Would I talk to her like this? What would she do if I did? Cry and run into her room? Yep. If I told her she was an idiot, asked her “what were you thinking” she is not going to feel very safe to talk. If I call her fat and tell her “I’m sick of my body” then she is not going feel secure or happy. She is going to shut down.

Well guess what? The adult version of us does the same thing when we hear that negative talk. It’s just as damaging to the adult mindset. Your inner child, “little you,” becomes hurt and scared when you talk negatively to yourself and ultimately will demand safe refuge from you, which manifests as escapism, numbing out, detachment, denial or living an inauthentic life. When we beat ourselves up, we injure and re-injure that part of ourselves that wants to reach for the light, that wants to move past a hurdle. It’s a vicious cycle that our lower ego aka “inner saboteurs” thrives upon because it’s HOW it keeps us in the same place, never advancing, accepting mediocrity in ourselves and expecting only that in others.

Two points are being made with these little anecdotes. First off, you cannot (ought not) beat up on yourself unless you’re ready to say the exact same things to a random 5-year-old. You can hear how harsh you are being when you consider saying the same words to a child. Imagine little YOU. If it’s too harsh for a 5-year-old, it’s too harsh for adult you. I promise. That tough exterior we put up is a façade. For some that may be as thick as armor, but it’s a façade nonetheless. Every, single person has a point where they can breakdown and be vulnerable, even the most monstrous of humans. It’s there, in all of us. We all have a Soul, whether we are aligned with it or not. You couldn’t be here without one. That doesn’t mean you couldn’t completely ignore your Higher Self (Spirit) and Soul (life vehicle) and instead give in to the lowest of vibrations (low ego) to create terrible things. We are seeing that happen before our eyes right now with the w-r in Ukraine and the attack against reproductive freedoms in the U.S.

Secondly, things are always darkest before the dawn. If we are being shown great shadows that means there is great Light present. You cannot see shadows without light. We are being given an opportunity to understand what we are truly made of, a test of our values, and if we let ourselves be driven by fear, by the lower ego, we may get swept up in the darkness of our shadow. But if we hold fast to kindness, love, forgiveness and hope, to solutions over separation, we have a real chance to create a new era of peace and harmony in the world. There will still be death and destruction, but it’s how we respond to these stimuli that will define the next phase of our Humanity.

Hate begets hate. Violence begets violence. Retaliation begets retaliation. Fear begets fear. Empathy begets empathy, Kindness begets kindness, Love begets love, Hope begets hope, Joy begets joy. It’s just how it works y’all, and we cannot fall prey to the lower impulses of our human psyche (that is quite underdeveloped) and submit to the Chaos. Chaos is only here to give us the opportunity to create Calm. See the signs and do the work to be Kind to everyone and everything. To even pray for the monsters – for kindness reaches through and shifts frequencies in the Collective Consciousness.

What better time to reframe our situation and reclaim a sense of Peace, Kindness and Harmony than at the start of Spring? What kind of world do we want to create? Start with what kind of life we want to create for ourselves. Where can we create good vibes in our life right now? At home, in school, at work, with friends, neighbors, local businesses and organizations, charities, clubs, groups, etc, etc.??

Let the start of Spring bring a sense of Optimism into your heart. We have a lot of work to do and we don’t have time to lament, criticize and flap our jaws. We only have time to counteract the hatred in the world by not giving into fear and pessimism. It’s our way out.

Spring is Here!!

The upcoming days will lead us into some incredible cosmic energies. The vibe is going to be wild! Feel the electricity as we move into the Astrological New Year on Monday, March 21 – the first day of Aries! For this full moon weekend we have lovely Libra, the gentle artist and diplomat. Libra cannot stand when there is a fight and will do whatever it can to resolve it with both sides. Hopefully it will shine a light of diplomacy on this conflict in Europe or at least between allied countries who are trying to end the conflict. Full moons are about culmination, the bloom on the plant from the seeds planted at the new moon.

On Sunday, March 20 we enter the Spring Equinox and Ostara. Hello new season! The very next day (March 21) is the Astrological New Year with the start of Aries! Aries is the first sign in the Zodiac and Pisces is the last. This entire weekend presents an Astro Sandwich of deliciousness to delve into as we break out of the winter chill (ending/full moon) and burst out with full life (beginning/Aries season). We’ll have some needed Fire in the sky as fire makes things happen, takes action and leads the charge! We’ve been swimming in the deep waters of Pisces since Feb. 19. The Sun moving into Aries will hopefully ignite any inactive or undecided parties into action toward the Greater Good. Goodbye watery, deep, emotional Pisces. I’m ready for this Aries fire to kick things up a big ole notch!

For you, take this weekend, and most especially Sunday and Monday, as your opportunity to solidify and sharpen (or revise) your goals for 2022. Or you can set your goals for the first time this year. This is your last chance for a 2022 New Year’s Resolution so take advantage of it! Seeds planted right now will have a powerful boost of fertilizer upon the first day of Spring into Aries season. March 20 and 21 are your MOST POWERFUL DAYS to set intentions, release old baggage and define your mission, message, goal or creative/professional endeavor for 2022!

Kindness is Key

Remember this fact – the lower ego speaks first and loudest. The first thought that pops in your head may not be your gut at all, but the trickster lower ego trying to scare you and “keep you in line.” It literally drowns out your Higher Self so you can’t hear the still, soft Inner Voice sending you calm messages. The lower ego is like an alarm going off in your head. Whatever thought pops into your head first in a situation, be suspicious and be still, listen for another voice to say something else, something different. Again, the lower ego is here to keep you alive – it overreacts to everything because it sees the world through a defensive lens, which is actually necessary when you are truly in mortal danger, but otherwise it’s way too neurotic and fear mongering. When you hear that calmer Inner Voice instead, you’ll know. It won’t speak with judgment or fear; it will speak softly and lovingly. It’s the voice that comforts the Child Within and reminds you that everything will be okay. It will usually be the opposite of what the ego says. Every time you make a decision, listen for that quieter voice after the initial, quick voice. See if you’re hearing something different. If you are, then you know your lower ego is speaking first (and jumping in line) and ultimately trying to use baser emotions of distrust and skepticism to keep you from seeing life in a different way. The more you practice making the lower ego sit back and wait, when you listen for the softer voice it will be easier to hear. Listen carefully.

Being kind to yourself is where this all begins. When you are kind to you, you can be kind to others. Kindness attracts more kindness. We are here for each other and the sooner we all accept that, the sooner we can heal our hurts and collaboratively work for a harmonious world. I truly believe that.

Peace and Love to All Humans!
